I haven't been paying much attention to my life in India since I put my blogs together. I seem to just do memes and linked posts. This is a real 'gaelikaa's diary' post for a change.
We had a good weekend. It was Holi, which is the Hindu festival which marks the beginning of summer. We had a nice time. I'm so happy to see that my husband has come out of the depression which he was suffering for a long time following the death of his father last year.
The children are doing reasonably well in school but the little fellow is a terrible chancer. He's way behind in his multiplication tables and borrowing subtraction and disappears the minute I try to reign him in to study with me for a while. He is happy because his two elder cousins Sonu and Monu are at home from college. He spends all his time with them but he comes back to me sometimes for hugs and tells me that his cousins will soon go away again. My eldest son is going into Class Ten so it's going to be an examination year. I really pray that his efforts at study bear fruit. He's excellent in Chemistry but finds arts rather tedious. Unlike me, who could disappear into reading literature forever, forgetting the fact that science leaves me cold. My two daughters bicker non-stop. I try to ignore them unless they actually start giving verbal abuse.
My dear mother-in-law has decided that I am responsible for the ills of the entire universe (well, our house anyway) and is currently targeting me with all her angst. It nearly caused full-scale war between me and her son, the one I'm married to, over the weekend. Luckily, good sense prevailed. At times like this, I try to remember that 'this too shall pass' and keep smiling. Or as old friend of mine always said, "hang on in there, thngs can only get worse."
I'm slowly working on the final chapters of that novel I started last November. I can clearly envisage how the story is going to end. In fact taking a break has made the ending so much clearer. When the novel finally sees the light of day it will probably prove to be a heap of drivel, but I so totally enjoyed writing it, that I'll love it forever anyway.
Meanwhile, I'm also slowly working on another idea for a novel, just at the plotting stage right now. I'm also writing and submitting short stories and have had a couple of rejections (cringe!) and one acceptance. From Ireland. I won't write about it now, though, because it's not out till October. When do I get time for all this? Oh, I do a bit here and there when circumstances alllow. When there are no kids under my feet and no Lord and Master looking for tea all the time. If you keep chipping away you get somewhere eventually.
I just love writing so much. It gives me nearly the same kind of high that reading does.
Then there's that BA I have to finish by June positively.
Yes, I'd better get my skates on for that.
My youngest child Nitin has just appeared demanding breakfast with menace. I'd better go.
